Advanced Electrolysis & Laser Hair Removal of Asheville frequently answers these questions:
What is the cause of unwanted hair?
Unwanted is in the eyes of the beholder. But if you do not want the hair to grow in certain areas it can become unwanted. Causes are hereditary, hormonal imbalances, medications or can be self inflicted by temporary methods of removal like tweezing or waxing (this can cause you to grow more hair).
What parts of the body can hair be removed from?
Any hair can be removed from the body. Laser can’t be used around the eyes. Electrolysis can’t be used inside the rim of the nostrils.
How do I pick the right procedure for me and my hair problem?
The technician here in Asheville will guide you to the right procedure for you. Electrolysis will work on your white, red or blonde hairs. Laser will work on your brown or black hairs.
How did permanent hair removal get started?
It all started by an eye doctor out of St. Louis Missouri. Dr. Charles Michel invented a method of electrical current to cause a chemical reaction in the hair follicle to destroy the germative cells. He invented it for ingrown eyelashes. Today these methods are called electrolysis, thermolysis or blend.
Can this scar my skin?
Scarring can happen with both electrolysis and laser hair removal if you do not follow the before and after instructions given at the initial consultation here in Asheville.
Is there anything I need to do?
Electrolysis: Before you come to for an electrolysis treatment you need to have the hair just outside the skin so the technician can remove it. After the treatment is over, you need to keep the skin clean with no make-up, lotions or creams for at least 24 hours so the skin has time to close its pores. Make sure to drink lots of water to hydrate the skin before and after treatments.
Laser: Before you do laser hair removal you need to stop all tanning and tanning lotions for at least 6 weeks to let your skin relax (the lighter your skin the better the laser treatment will be). Do not put lotions, creams or make-up on the skin the day you come in. Shave the treatment area. After the laser treatment is over you can put ice on the area. It will be red and have welts for about 2 hours after the treatment. After two days start scrubbing or shaving the area to exfoliate the dead hair off the skin. Make sure to put sun block on the skin at all times. Do not expose the area treated with laser to the sun or tanning beds at all during the duration of your treatments.
Who is qualified to do Electrolysis and/or Laser hair removal treatments?
In the state of North Carolina a licensed electrologist is allowed to do electrolysis, thermolysis and blend, the 3 modalities of permanent hair removal. Laser hair removal should only be done by a licensed laser technician or a trained technician that works in a doctor’s office with the doctor present. (NCGA 88A). Only a licensed electrologist with a license to do laser hair removal can perform this in an office without a physician (they should have a supervising physician on staff). All other technicians need to be in an office with a physician supervising and in the building. This is for the client’s safety.
